The pilot evaluation confirmed how The Lancaster Model is a vehicle to enable the delivery of the School Nurse Development Model1, which is based on the enhancement of service provision at community, universal, universal plus and universal partnership plus level.
| The School Nurse Development Model | The Lancaster Model | |
| Your Community | Your Community has a range of health services (including GP and community services) for children and young people and their families. School nurses develop and provide these and make sure you know about them. | Your Community (Step One) The Scoping Exercise helped to identify who provided the current range of health services available in the community and enabled relevant members of the team to build on community capacity. |
| Universal services | Universal services from your school nurse team provide the Healthy Child Programme to ensure a healthy start for every child (e.g., immunisations, health checks). They support children and parents to ensure access to a range of community services. | Universal services (Step Two) The Health Needs Assessment enabled the delivery of The Healthy Child Programme and identification of those with specific needs and risk factors who required additional services. |
| Universal plus | Universal plus delivers a swift response from your School nurse Service when you need specific expert help (e.g., with sexual health, mental health concerns, long-term conditions and additional health needs | Universal plus (Step Three) The Skills Analysis Strategy supported a swift response with specific expert help from members of the team. |
| Universal partnership plus | Universal partnership plus delivers ongoing support by your SN team from a range of local services working together and With you, to deal with more complex issues over a period of time (e.g. with charities and your local authority). | Universal partnership plus (Step Four) The Workforce Redesign informed the contribution of partner agencies and enabled ongoing support from the wider multiagency teams. |
| (Step Five) The Training Support Programme helped and sustained the process throughout. |
